The Sapiehas and the Potockis were amongst the most influential families of the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth. The latter family owned numerous estates in Ukraine, which were directly under threat from marching Lithuanian soldiers. Kazimierz Jan Sapieha, Grand Hetman of Lithuania was in charge of the said estates. Due to cooperation of the two magnate families, he attempted to shield the Potockis’ estates and possessions from Lithuanian troops marching to or returning from the war with Turkey. Abstract In 1648, an uprising broke out in Ukraine that belonged to Poland at the time. The war was not successful for the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Cossacks and Tartars, who were helping them during the war, surrounded Zbaraż, about whose defense everyone knew in the country. King Jan Kazimierz decided to set out to rescue the besieged fortress. It was decided that not only Polish troops, but also soldiers of Lithuania would set out for Ukraine. The history of the Liber Augustalis, from manuscripts to printed editions, make it possible to follow the path of adaptation of the glosses into two apparatuses, the Glossa Ordinaria by Marino da Caramanico and the Lectura Peregrina by Andrea da Isernia, which includes the notes of other jurists. The history of urbanization has barely been analyzed for the Mezzogiorno in Italy. This has partly been due to the persistence of stereotypes in Italian historiography, and partly due to the current definition of city functions. The article results from a meeting of specialists in Early Modern southern Italian history organized to undertake the rigorous and detailed study of the common features and the differences within the urban systems of the Mezzogiorno, in order to synthesize the specific character of urbanization in southern Italy over the long term. The author outlines the main areas under study and establishes its methodological foundations and first hypotheses.

This research aims to analyze recruitment by quintas, Spanish word for recruitment levies by lot, in the city of Valencia and the townships included in its jurisdictional area. The analyzed period began in 1717 with the first levie decreted by king Philip V once the War of Spanish Succession was over. Applied this levie in the kingdom of Valencia, this was the first application of levies by lot. The closing year for the reported period up to 1762, whith the last levy made by king Charles III before the establishment of the annual periodicity for the recruitment process.
